Date: Saturday, April 6, 2013; 10 am to 3 pm (okay to come for part of day)
Location: Beyond Baroque Literary / Arts Center, 681 Venice Boulevard, Venice CA 90291
Learn by doing: how to turn a typical lawn into a resource-wise, habitat-friendly, and Ocean Friendly Garden (OFG)!
We will be: discussing the basics of building an OFG, re-grading the soil to capture and retain rain water, and retrofitting the building’s downspouts to direct roof runoff into the garden.
This workshop is the first in a series of three hands on workshops on building this new OFG demonstration project at Beyond Baroque which was awarded a 2013 Keep Los Angeles Beautiful Grant.
Refreshments and a pot luck lunch will be provided. Bring friends and family!

An Ocean Friendly Garden (OFG) applies “CPR” to revive our watersheds and oceans:
C – Conservation: properly-spaced native and climate-appropriate plants;
P – Permeability: healthy soil and mulch act like a sponge, and hardscape directs water into garden;
R – Retention: directing rain water into the garden and preventing runoff.
